How To Stay Healthy During Ramadan?

Ramadan is fast approaching and it is obligatory for every Muslims all over the world. However, sinking into a new routine can be challenging during the long summer season, Especially in the UAE.

It is fasting voluntarily done by our brothers and sisters for the entire 30 days or during Shaaban (Muslim calendar), which is highly recommended in Islam.

Below are the healthy tips for you to prepare for Ramadan comes, so it would be easy for you to stay healthy & fit during fasting period:

Consult your Doctor

Elderly/Seniors should consult doctors especially when they have diabetes & take medicine to control their insulin levels, same as pregnant women and children is a must to consult a doctor. Time for Reflection

Time to reflect and get rid the stress away! It is also a time to get closer to Allah to know more and understand your responsibilities.

Never Skip “SUHOUR” or “The meal is eaten before dawn”

It is just like a breakfast, it helps you to stay hydrated and energized until next meal at iftar. It will help you also not to do binge eating when you do the fasting during sunset.

A well-balanced diet is required, foods to be taken must contain complex carbohydrates which are wheat, oats, lentils these certain foods helps your sugar level on a normal level it gives you additional energy for the entire day.

High-fiber foods such as dates, figs, whole wheat and almost all fruits like apricots, banana, and prunes it is essential to keep your body hydrated.

Protein-rich foods like eggs, yogurt cheese or red meats it helps in replenishing your energy that you consumed the entire day.

Eat Vegetables and Fruits

At least 7 servings are required as an alternative snack between meals. In exchange for dairy and sweets that is being consumed by some of us during Ramadan. Fruits normally contain water which helps you to be hydrated; fruits such as cucumbers, watermelon, melon, and squash.

Avoid DAIRY, SUGAR and PROCESSED FOODS

Cut down fast burning foods which consist of sugars and white flours because they are rich in fat and low nutrient consumption.

Don’t Binge-Eat

Eat slowly and let the food digest normally to start with few pieces of high fiber food like dates/figs/prunes because it helps to secrete digestive enzymes which helps when you are taking your first meal. Don’t forget to drink water to keep you hydrated or you can start with a warm soup. Avoid fatty meals.

Stay Hydrated and Avoid caffeine

Drink atleast 8-12 glass of water, it is the best choice from juices since it contains sugar. AVOID caffeine since it has a diuretic effect and let you dehydrated.

Avoid working out during fasting

It helps to prevent dehydration, we suggest you work out when the time your energy level is normal and when you are well enough rehydrated.  Keep in mind to be hydrated the entire day you do work out.
